Using the keyboard
The MacNTouch keyboard has been optimized to reduce finger motion and stress while maximizing performance. Typing and mousing should be done using the lightest touch. This will require some practice to achieve since most people have developed a bad habit of banging on the keys of conventional keyboards. You should also try to relax your hands and remember to rest all five fingers on the surface frequently. Relaxation and minimizing finger force is the key to successful use of the TouchStream.
A large number of gestures are also available to enable quick and easy input of frequently entered key and mouse combinations. Try learning new gestures as time and need permits. The small amount of time invested learning gestures will pay back many times over. TouchStream users also find that even simple operations like Shift, arrows, and enter are more quickly and less stressfully done using gestures. Try to forget using the Shift key when typing and practice using the 4-finger Shift gesture instead.
Additional info and tips regarding typing
Setting
up the mouse pointer speed
Note that OS-X does not provide much in the way of speed
and acceleration control for pointing. If the following
procedure does not give you satisfactory results then
you can further tune the pointing performance using the MyGesture
Editor.
- Click the "System Preferences" icon
- Click the "Show All" icon in the upper
left corner
- Click the Mouse icon
- Set the mouse tracking speed to the nearly the fastest
setting.
- Set the scrolling speed to the lowest setting.
- Set the double-click speed to Fast
- Click the trackpad tab
- Check "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present"
box.
Setting system for zooming entire screen
Note that some applications may have zoom capability that
zooms only the application window. For those applications
that have integral zoom (e.g., PhotoShop) you may want to
use the MyGesture
Editor to change the gesture mapping or to create a
special zoom gesture.
If
you want to enable full screen zoom using the right hand
5-finger expand/contract do the following.
- Click the "System Preferences" icon
- Click the "Show All" icon in the upper
left corner
- Click the "Universal Access" icon in
the lower right corner.
- Click the "Seeing" Tab
- Click the "Turn On Zoom" button
- Click the "Zoom Options" button
- Set Maximum Zoom to 1
- Set Minimum Zoom to 1
- Check the "Smooth images" box.
- Click the Done button.
Setting system to generate key click sounds
Note that the sound feedback option may be helpful while
you are learning to type on our ZeroForce MacNTouch keyboard.
If you're like most TouchStream users you will eventually
turn off the sound and type silently. It's just much nicer
to type in silence.
If you want to enable key click noises
do the following.
- Click the "System Preferences"
icon
- Click the "Show All" icon in the upper
left corner
- Click the "Universal Access" icon in
the lower right corner.
- Click the "Keyboard" Tab
- Click the "Sticky Keys" Off button
- Click the "Slow Keys" On button
- Check the "Use click key sounds" box
