Two of the unique ergonomic design goals achieved by FingerWorks MultiTouch Technology are effortless computing and seamless interfaces.
Effortless computing means you don't have to actively press on our surfaces to activate keys or click the mouse--our sensors can detect the lightest presence or proximity of your fingers to the surface. This makes TouchStream keyboards the first practical devices for zero-force typing.
Seamless interfaces mean you can switch between typing, pointing, scrolling, and gesture commands with a simple change in hand configuration (e.g. using different finger combinations). This eliminates redundant motions such as reaching between keyboard and mouse. It also helps you keep your mind on the task at hand, instead of wandering around looking for scrollbars, mice, and misplaced hot-keys!
Different operations within our seamless interfaces employ a wide variety of hand and finger motions well distributed amongst the fingers, and, for TouchStream keyboards, amongst both hands. This helps you avoid repeating a particular finger motion like clicking so often as to wear out fine muscles and tendons.

- Repetitive Strain Injury: A Computer User's Guide
By Emil Pascarelli and Deborah Quilter, Foreword by Fred Hochberg
This is an extremely helpful book for those struggling with repetitive strain injuries (tendonitis, epicondylitis, De Quervain's Syndrome, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, etc.). Its many guiding principles helped one of the TouchStream inventors manage and eventually conquer his own tendonitis via development of zero-force typing.
